Block 9 – Eightfold Hearts

Pattern Source

This block was inspired by Elly Sienkiewicz's block called Star of Hearts, Pattern 6 in Baltimore Beauties and Beyond, Volume 1. The inspiration block's "hearts" were angular, and I decided I wanted to make them more rounded, like traditional hearts.

Block Title

The pattern for this block was made by folding a piece of paper in eighths and cutting the heart shapes (much the same way you'd make a snowflake).

This Leg of the Journey – Completed May 2006

After working off and on on the Familiaris Consortio block for two months, I decided I needed a break from sewing teeny grapes! Eightfold Hearts was very easy and quick—I completed it in one day. I was worried that I'd lost the quilting bug, but after finally completing Familiaris and following it up immediately with Eightfold, I can't wait to get behind the needle again!

Lesson Learned

After a particularly time-consuming block like Familiaris Consortio, select a VERY simple block, just to get back on track (and to regain your confidence!)
