The Journey

After making my first quilt in August-October 2005 completely by hand, I got the idea of making a Baltimore Album Quilt, probably the most challenging of quilting projects. I was so new to quilting that I didn't know what a crazy idea it was.

I began to do some research online and quickly discovered that the best (and practically only) books on the subject are those by Elly Sienkiewicz. I bought my first two, The Best of Baltimore Beauties volumes 1 and 2, and then discovered that most of Elly's books are now out of print. Part of my journey was successfully acquiring all but one of the remaining books via online used booksellers. I'm still in search of Spoken Without a Word, but everywhere I've seen it, its price is far too dear.

Meanwhile I made a few more quilts as gifts for Christmas 2005, and then my Baltimore Album Quilt journey really began. Each leg of my journey is documented along with the blocks below. Click on Block 1 to begin.
