Pattern Source

This block was drafted from a block in an 1874 quilt which is now in the Michigan State University Museum. The quilt was made by Pennsylvanian Elizabeth Neff. You can find my free downloadable pattern here.

Block Title

I simply called this the Elizabeth Neff Block, after the woman who inspired it.

This Leg of the Journey – Completed October 2007

My sister Kathy is a librarian who rather enjoys doing research. She recently sent a link to a wonderful historic quilt repository (The Quilt Index), which provides a wealth of information, including photographs of some beautiful old quilts. I discovered the Elizabeth Neff quilt called "Red and Green Appliqué Christmas Quilt." Here is a photo of the Elizabeth Neff quilt.

Lesson Learned

Look at historic quilts for inspiration, and draft your own blocks!
