Block 2 – Ruched Rose Lyre

Pattern Source

This block is Pattern #24, Ruched Rose Lyre, from Elly Sienkiewicz's book, Baltimore Beauties and Beyond, Volume I, Studies in Classic Album Quilt Appliqué.

Block Title

I kept the title Elly suggested. "Ruched" refers to the ruffling of the fabric strip that gives this rose its three-dimensional quality.

This Leg of the Journey – Completed January 2005

I was attracted to this block because of the ruched rose. I'd heard of ruching before, mostly referring to design elements in clothing. The fabric I selected for the lyre is all from eQuilter's COLOR PALETTE - Olive/Moss/Gold Metallic packet of fat quarters. This block went rather quickly, although I completely redid the rose.

Lesson Learned

I learned how to do ruching, which is quite nice. I will probably use this technique in blocks later on my journey.
