Stamping Surface

Hey, you can stamp anything that stands still long enough! When my son was about 18 months old he invented temporary tattoos by stamping his tummy with a Taz stamp. Imagine his pediatrician's surprise when she lifted his shirt only to see a grinning Tasmanian Devil staring back!

Seriously, there is no end to the surfaces you can stamp. Your imagination is the limit! Of course the majority of my stamping is done on paper, and usually the boring white variety. Canson Mi Tientes is my favorite all-purpose paper, and it comes in a wide array of colors. I buy it by the large sheet and cut it to suit my needs. It is readily available at craft and art supply stores.

Most of my specialty paper comes from Xpedx Paper and Graphics (click to see if there is a store near you), and I buy my fancy papers from Hollander's in Ann Arbor. Check my Links page for more resources.

One thing I like to do is print a lot of post cards (4 x 6) and keep them on hand to drop in the mail to friends and family just to say "hi," for no special occasion at all. Probably the most interesting way to share your art with the world is to get involved in the Carving Consortium Art Drop. Click for more details!

Use your stamps to create lovely custom fabric or ribbon. Use Fabrico fabric stamp pads and heat set, or use special fabric paint. You can also use Fabrico pads to stamp on wood, so you can make really unique boxes, frames, clocks, and so on.

The more you carve the more you'll stamp, and the more you stamp, the more things you'll find to stamp!
